brink: (Serious | Upset | This secret we have)

Hijacked dream party

Tonight's dream party is, unconventionally enough, not organised by the rift, but by Topher!

Thing is, he was sort of supposed to only pull in a few very specific, targeted people, and all of a sudden, this whole lot comes pouring in. See, he's working with someone with the power of ability amplification, making Topher's dream abilities obscenely powerful for tonight, and he's not quite used to it.

The dreamers will find themselves in an old mansion at nighttime. Lots and lots of rooms; several bedrooms and bathrooms of various sizes, studies, library, sitting rooms, kitchen, dining rooms, games/billiards room, even secret passageways... There's a fire roaring in every grate, everything is warmly lit, with lots of dark corners to sneak off to, comfortable couches, plenty of drinks tables. There's also a pervasive feeling that you're safe, that you can relax. That whispered secrets in the dark will be kept. And everyone will feel much less compelled to judge or mock upon hearing those secrets. A night for confessions. All of a sudden, it's hard to resist opening up...

Of course, the dreamers don't know there's someone listening in, seeing everything that goes on, sometimes even manipulating things to go the way he wants. Certain people with psychic/telepathic/dream abilities may eventually cotton on, though. But it'll take a while. But the secrets you tell in the meantime may not remain secrets for that long. Especially if those secrets are useful to certain other important players in the city, quite apart from the two factions our rifties have become familiar with.

[Mod note: Usual dream party rules apply. All players and characters are welcome, current members or no. Characters will remember or forget all dream events at players' discretion. Bear in mind that any events or information shared in this dream will be available to Topher, and, by extension, probably his bosses, such as Beatrice.]

Yeah, Aglet's not exactly selling Borrowers as shy, furtive beings. Not that there isn't a decent amount of subtlety inherent in being smaller than your average action figure, but he wasn't even trying to be sneaky when she found him, and he didn't seem all that upset at being noticed.

But all that takes a back seat to what he seems to be calling people. "You call humans 'beans'?" she asks, eyebrows raised.

Try him in the waking world and see how outgoing he is. He sighs and rolls his eyes at what's by now a familiar question thanks to Jennifer harping on about how it's not really the right word. "Human Beans -- and don't say it, I know. That's just how it's said."

Sunshine doesn't really go in for 'precious' most of the time, but she still lets out a little huff of amusement. Gods, it's like something out of a fairy tale - one of the nicer ones, even, which pretty much convinces her that Borrowers don't exist in her universe. There certainly aren't any in the bakery; there's no way anything living could survive the Monday night cleaning crew's herculean efforts.

Still, this one doesn't seem too bad. He's a good eater, at any rate. "How's the cookie?" she asks.

No one thinks Borrowers live in their universe, though, and that's just the way Borrowers like it. Aglet grins up at her. "It's delicious!" he tells her enthusiastically. "And you were right about the oreos."

"If you want to try some chocolate, I've got some Bitter Chocolate Death coming out of the fridge in a few minutes." She raises her eyebrows. "You'd have to come out, though." It's not just Bitter Chocolate Death currently in progress, and she doesn't have time for an extended chat in the pantry.

Aglet hesitates. "Why can't you just bring it here?" he asks, as if having her continue to ferry crumbs to him is a completely reasonable demand to make.

"Because I'm busy," she replies evenly. She can understand a little uneasiness at the thought of being out in the kitchen proper for someone so tiny, but that doesn't mean she's going to drop everything else just to fetch little morsels for him. She shrugs, not wanting to push him into doing anything he doesn't want to do. "You can stay in here if you want, but out there is where all the food and I are going to be."

But he thought she got this. Now she's saying she's too busy? Aglet sighs heavily and contemplates the lack of cookies in his present locale. He can still rifle through packaged foods, of course, but now he's been spoiled for it.

"I don't like being picked up," he admits. Then he gives her a thoughtful look -- he could switch sizes with her! But then she couldn't make more cookies for him. Hmm.

Yeah, she wouldn't like being picked up by someone her relative size, either. Besides, who knows where those little shoes have been? She's going to have to scrub her hands before she gets back to work (well, she would anyway, but doubly so if she ends up actually picking this kid up).

"Well, you could climb into a cup or something and I could carry that," she offers, throwing a distracted glance back at the kitchen. The latest batch of cookies are going to need to come out in a minute.

Those little shoes have been all over the pantry and everything in it, that is where. Aglet senses that he might lose her soon -- and if she goes back to the kitchen without him, it could be a while before he has another chance. Being picked up is a lesser evil than being stuck in the pantry while the good stuff is out in the kitchen, and he finally relents. "Yeah, okay," he says. "Just be careful, okay?"

[personal profile] rae_of_sun 2014-02-19 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
"Sure." The pantry isn't just full of food - there's a shelf with canning supplies, including glass mason jars of varying sizes. She picks a little one that Aglet should be able to climb into without either feeling cramped or hurting himself in the drop and sets it up on his shelf, tipped on its side so he can slide in easily. "This work for you?"

This place must have done a doozie on Aglet, because he climbs in with perfect aplomb, not even thinking about how she could slap a lid onto the jar and let him suffocate or take him to show to other Beans or cook him up or any number of other nasty things. She's said she'll be careful, and for once that's enough for him. "You may take me to the cookies now," he says magnanimously, only half kidding.
